Frequently Asked Questions

What is CR keyway vs GR keyway?

CR and GR are standardized keyways used by municipalities and utility companies for traffic control equipment. CR keyway typically uses Key #2, while GR uses Key #401. Check your existing equipment or municipal specifications to determine which keyway you need.

Can I get custom keying?

Yes! While we stock standard Key #2 (CR) and Key #401 (GR), custom keying is available for both keyways. This allows you to integrate with your existing key system or create a unique key code for your installation.

What's the difference between deadbolt and latchbolt?

E5D features a spring deadbolt with positive locking — the bolt must be manually retracted with the key for maximum security. E5L features a spring latchbolt that can be pushed closed without a key, making it more convenient for frequent access while still providing secure locking.

Are these suitable for outdoor use?

Yes! All E5 Series locks are designed for outdoor NEMA enclosures and traffic control boxes. The US3 zinc die cast finish provides excellent corrosion resistance, while the US4 solid brass option offers even greater durability in harsh weather conditions.

What does "right-hand" handing mean?

Handing refers to the orientation of the lock mechanism. Right-hand configuration is standard for most NEMA enclosures. The lock is designed to install with the key cylinder on the right side when viewed from outside the enclosure.
